Cryptomeria japonica 'Golden Promise' is an exiting newer selection of Japanese cedar. It's structure is very similar to Vilmoriniana with a notable difference. In spring the fresh push of new growth is bright yellow, maturing to a rich gold. Typical rate of growth in most areas is around 1 inch (2.5 cm) a year, resulting in a golden globe 12 inches (30 cm) tall and wide after ten years in the garden.

Origin:

Don W. Hatch Nursery of Honiton, United Kingdom introduced this cultivar to the nursery trade in 1998. Iseli Nursery of Boring, Oregon has been handling production of this fine selection in the U.S. 'Golden Promise' is appropriate for any garden setting where a small, globose, golden conifer is desired. As is true with all Cyptomeria, this is a very sun and drought-tolerant little tree.
